From a first look on the bluffs of the little town of Sequim to an intimate ceremony on the top of Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic National Park, these two had an epic wedding day. They held their reception at their parents’ place where Sarah and Justin Carter became The Montgomery’s. Laughs, tears, and some fantastic dance moves will have you feeling ALL the feels while you scroll through this beautiful, intimate Hurricane Ridge wedding!
Sarah + Justin’s Intimate Hurricane Ridge Wedding Day
A first look in the Dungeness Recreation Area
These two lovelies started off their day with a sweet first look on the bluffs of the Dungeness Recreate Area in Sequim, overlooking the ocean & surrounded by moody skies. In case you couldn’t already tell, this wedding day is the perfect example of how clouds and/or rain do NOT have to ruin your big day. Moody, PNW skies are some of my favorites to photograph, as they give us absolutely beautiful, soft lighting and even skin tones! I promise that a little PNW rain won’t hurt your wedding day, especially if you expect it + prepare for it (because let’s be real, the likelihood of a rainy day is higher than a sunny one in WA!).
Wedding ceremony at Hurricane Ridge
After spending some alone time together to take some deep breaths & feel all the feels of the day, we headed to Hurricane Ridge for Sarah and Justin’s ceremony. It was an intimate event with their closest loved ones standing around them. They said their vows in front of a pure white sky, surrounded by evergreen trees and foggy magic. The tears were definitely flowing as these two promised each other forever in the midst of one of the most beautiful places in the state!
P.S. Don’t they both look impeccable in their wedding attire? Sarah chose a stunning lace dress with simple yet boho sleeves, paired with an elegant veil. Justin looked dapper as ever in a beige suit with a charming floral tie. Truly the best-looking couple to visit Olympic National Park that day 😉
An epic reception at their family home in Sequim
To end their big day, Sarah and Justin had an absolutely epic reception at their family home in Sequim. Complete with a mobile drink bar, plates & plates of delicious food, a neon sign showing off their new last name, and a whimsical table scape for their guests. The only appropriate way to finish off the night was under twinkle lights & on the dance floor with their guests, which was one of the most fun parts of the day to photograph! Truly honored that I was able to capture this special day from start to finish for these beautiful humans.

Why Elope at Hurricane Ridge?
Hurricane Ridge is one of my absolute favorite locations for weddings inside of Olympic National Park. It’s easy to access for couples & guests of all mobility levels. You simply drive up to the viewpoint and get out of your car. This makes it a wonderful option if you or any children/guests you’re bringing along are unable to walk long distances or hike to a scenic viewpoint!
Because of how easily accessible Hurricane Ridge is, it can get pretty crowded especially in the warmer months. So keep in mind that if you’re wanting to elope at Hurricane Ridge in the summertime, you may be met with people everywhere wanting to share those amazing views with you!
One more important thing to note about seasonality at Hurricane Ridge is that the road to the ridge is open throughout the summer. In the winter, it’s typically open Fridays through Sundays, depending on weather & road conditions. I definitely recommend bringing along winter tires if you’re trying to avoid crowds & get up to the ridge in the colder months!
Hurricane Ridge Wedding Permits
To make sure your Hurricane Ridge wedding or elopement ceremony is fully legal, you’ll need to obtain what’s called a Special Use Permit from the National Park Service!
Here’s how to get it:
- Download the Special Use Permit application
- Fill out the application
- Send the completed application along with the $50 nonrefundable processing fee through check or money order (made payable to the National Park Service) to the address below:

- If your permit request is approved, you’ll receive a permit in the mail. Sign this once you receive it & mail it back to the park for final approval.
Start this process as far in advance as possible to make sure you have enough time to receive your permit!
